Renan ‘Chuna’ Pierre Cutven,74, the daughter of Altagracia Batista Pierre and Israel Pierre, born on July 9, 1949, and raised in Barahona, Dominican Republic, passed peacefully on April 29, 2024, after a long battle with non-malignant recurrent meningioma.
She resided in Lawrence, Massachusetts at the Nevins Nursing & Rehab Center at the time of her passing. She attended La Escuela Principal de Barahona until she joined the family supermarket and catering business alongside her mother embarking on her entrepreneurial journey while devoted to her family. In 1958, she met Donardo Mora who frequented the family market and together they brought three beautiful children, Pablo, Maribel, and Wilson Mora into the world. The family relocated to the capital, el Distrito Nacional, where Renan found employment at La Antillana Comercial where imported electronics and household items were sold. In addition to working for the company, Renan, took on a role as the domestic caretaker for her employer’s home. Renan’s employer was impressed with her work ethic to the extent that they recommended her for a job opportunity in Spain. She then resided for ten years moving from Madrid to Mostole, Spain before returning to her homeland to care for her ill mother and her children. She later immigrated to the United States by way of Puerto Rico. While living in P.R., she was employed by Yayabo Department Store where she met her now husband, Miguel Angel. They went on to have two children, Ángel and Angeline Hernandez. They married in 2014 and remained devoted to one another for the remainder of her life. Renan was an entrepreneur and took great pride in her work and her ability to provide for her children. While in P.R., she sought employment at the Tiptop Department store where her ability to speak English, Haitian Creole, and Spanish equipped her to excel in her beauty supply sales role; she was the top employee. In 1986, she purchased her second home in Los Naranjales, Carolina, Puerto Rico where she independently owned a miniature grocery store. While operating her business in Puerto Rico, she split her time between Lawrence, Massachusetts, and P.R. for roughly 10 years before permanently relocating to join her children in Massachusetts in the early 2000s. At that time, she continued her career as an entrepreneur.
In addition to being an exceptional woman in her own right, she was a devoted grandmother, mother, wife, sister, and friend who was loved by all and will forever be remembered for her positivity, love of laughter, and ability to brighten any room with her smile. She was a splendid cook, hosted joyous family gatherings, and enjoyed quality time with family and friends. In her more recent years, her hobbies included her membership at the Oasis Club, knitting, playing bingo, and spending time with her many grandchildren. The family is deeply saddened by Renan's passing; she was an incredibly remarkable woman who touched the lives of many. Her family hopes that all those who had the pleasure of knowing her will continue to cherish the insurmountable memories of her kindness, wisdom, and the laughter they shared. Her presence in everyone’s lives was truly a blessing. Her friends and family will forever remain grateful for the love and warmth she brought into their lives. May she rest in peace, knowing she will always be cherished and remembered fondly.
