Mr. Nicolás Fernández Peña, age 78, died on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his home in Lawrence, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Aurelia Veras, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage. 

Born in Mao, Dominican Republic, he was the son of the late Otilio Fernández and Beatriz Peña. Mr. Fernández Peña worked as a health inspector in the Dominican Republic for many years. Nicolás was a family man, he loved to just be around people and talk for hours. He also enjoyed watching sports games, especially baseball. 

In addition to his loving wife, Nicolás is survived by four daughters, Haydee Cepeda-Fernández & her husband Nelson Cepeda, Elvira Soledad Fernández  & her husband Jose Bonilla, Aura Fernández & her husband Jorge Ancheita and Maria Abreu & her husband Nepo Abreu; ten grandchildren, Jose Nicolas De La Rosa, Bryan De La Rosa, Jose Enrique Abreu, Ampary Peña, Kathia Peña, Anastasio Cabrera, Jonathan Cabrera, Cristopher Cabrera, Ezequiel Abreu & Maria Esther Abreu.  

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, Lawrence on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from  4 -7 p.m. At the family's request, interment will be private.
