Mrs. Fortunata DeLeón Román, age 96, died on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at her home, on Forest Street in Lawrence, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Confesor DeLeón Rentas, Sr. 

Born in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Antonio Román and Atilana Quiñones. Fortunata worked for many years as a seamstress in Puerto Rico and also for Polo Clothing Company in Lawrence in the 70's. Fortunata was very devoted to her family and always loved spending time with them. One of Fortunata’s favorite pastimes was to play Parcheesi, she also enjoyed singing and scratching lottery tickets.

Fortunata is survived by, 6 daughters, Carmen Cesal DeLeón, Nereida Colón, Luz Celenia Vega, Nerman DeLeón, Wanda DeLeón & her granddaughter María Colón, whom she raised; 4 sons, Confesor, Jr., Luis Alberto, Efrén & Carlos; 35 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren & 2 additional great great grandchildren on the way. She was predeceased by two daughters, Edna Judith DeLeón & Lillian Ivette DeLeón.

Relatives & friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Diaz-Healy Funeral Home, 107 South Broadway, Lawrence, on Sunday, April 24, 2016 from 4 – 8 p.m. Interment will be private.
